The Least of These Lenten Outreach

Following is the schedule for our Lenten Outreach Giving Programs, beginning on March 2, Ash Wednesday.


Week 1 – March 2-8: Chesterfield Food Bank

We’ll be taking donations of packaged or canned non-perishable foods and checks to the Chesterfield Food Bank. Suggested food items include: Beans, Rice, Pasta, Pasta Sauces, Canned Stews and Soups, Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruits, Canned Meats, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Breakfast Foods, Juices, Tea, Coffee, Cooking Oil and Condiments. Any checks should be made payable to the Chesterfield Food Bank.

 

Week 2 – March 9-15: CCHASM

We’ll be collecting both non-perishable food items and Women’s Career Clothing to donate to CCHASM (Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry). Please see the list above for suggested food donations. The following items are requested to stock their Women’s Career Closet: Slacks, Blouses/Tops, Sweaters, Skirts, Suits, Dresses, Jewelry, Coats, Scarves, Purses and Shoes.

UPDATE! A full carload was delivered to CCHASM. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!

Week 3 – March 16-22: St. Matthias Food Bank

We’ll be contributing packaged or canned non-perishable food and toiletries to the St. Matthias Food Bank. Suggested donations include: Beans, Rice, Pasta, Pasta Sauces, Canned Stews and Soups, Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruits, Canned Meats, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Breakfast Foods, Juices, Tea, Coffee, Cooking Oil, Condiments, Soap, Shampoo, Lotion, Toothpaste and Toothbrushes.

Week 4 – March 23-29: Friends of the Homeless

The needs for this organization include Paper Towels, Washcloths and Towels (not necessarily new), Kitchen Cloths and Towels, Deodorant, 13 Gallon Trash Bags, 55 Gallon Trash Bags, Free and Clear Laundry Detergent Pods.

Week 5 – March 30-April 5: Feed More

We’ll be taking donations of packaged or canned non-perishable foods and checks to Feed More. Suggested food items include: Beans, Rice, Pasta, Pasta Sauces, Canned Stews and Soups, Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruits, Canned Meats, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Breakfast Foods, Juices, Tea, Coffee, Cooking Oil and Condiments. Any checks should be made payable to Feed More.

Week 6 – April 6-12: CARITAS

We plan to contribute housewares to CARITAS. Suggested items include: Bakeware, Bed Linens/Sheets/Pillowcases/Mattress Pads, Blankets/Comforters/Bedspreads (all sizes), Cookware, Dishes, Glassware (larger than 6 oz., NO stemware), Knives/Cutting Boards, Laundry Baskets/Bags, Sleeping Pillows, Eating/Serving Utensils, Kitchen Towels, Bath Towels (Wash/Hand/Bath). Any checks should be made payable to CARITAS.




Donations may be left in the collection boxes in the narthex, on tables in the parlor or in the box outside of the church office entrance. Any checks should be left in the church office.


Thank you so much for supporting this Lenten Outreach Program. While all parishioners are encouraged to participate in any/all of these collections, your small group may be interested in picking one group to assist with a more targeted approach. For example, the Men’s Bible Study plans to focus on collections for Friends of the Homeless. Please contact Wynne Sbertoli at wsbertoli@aol.com if your group would like to adopt a particular ministry.
