The newly formed Social Justice Committee at Redeemer is pleased to announce our first sponsored activity for our parishioners. In keeping with our focus on racial reconciliation and creation care, we are excited to offer you the opportunity to support families in the Greater Richmond area by volunteering at Shalom Farms in Midlothian, Virginia.
Shalom Farms is located just off of Robious Road, near Route 288. It comprises a 12-acre sustainable farm that offers an agricultural learning lab for visitors and volunteers of all backgrounds. Last year, with the help of more than 6,000 volunteers, Shalom Farms provided over 500,000 servings of fresh produce to Richmond area families.
The farm welcomes individuals and groups of all ages and abilities to volunteer, though most farm tasks will not be appropriate for children under 6 years old. Shalom Farms is observing COVID safety protocols, such that we are limited to no more than 15 volunteers for this event.
This fun family event will occur on Saturday, June 19th and will start at 8:45am, and end at Noon. This date is of particular significance to our committee efforts, as it falls on the day of "Juneteenth" ... a holiday which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. As the number of volunteer slots are limited, we ask that you RSVP as soon as possible.
