Lenten Journey 2021

Weaving Individual Faith into Community

Lent is typically a time for individual inward reflection on our lives of faith...the many tiny fibers within each of us that make up the fabric of our souls.  We are encouraged to explore what it means to be mortal and because of that, what God wants us to do with our earthly lives.  We certainly hope that will once again be part of your Lenten journey but because of the physical distancing involved with the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us are feeling like we have had quite enough 'alone time'...we are aching for community.

So perhaps this Lenten season we can all contemplate individually and inwardly how we might best come back together once we are able; how our individual fabrics may best be woven together in the tapestry of God's family.  Even though deepening our individual faith is vital, we are also called to community...both as the family of Redeemer and as the greater body of Christ to be God's example of true community to the world around us.

The set up for the agapé meal will be similar to our Annual Meeting, which means you can scroll through participants on Zoom and see your friends! The liturgy for the service can either be found here or in your Lent in a Box.

We will walk around the church, stopping at each of the 14 stations.

Compline

During the season of Lent, Redeemer vestry members will lead Compline services for our community every Sunday-Thursday at 8:30pm through Zoom. This service is rooted in tradition, "descend[ing] from the night prayers said before bed at the end of the monastic round of daily prayer," (episcopalchurch.org). Compline is a great way to end the day and we hope you will join us as we weave individual faith into community.

Holy Eucharist

Episcopal Church of the Redeemer offers contemplative, virtual worship services including music from our organ and other instruments. We follow the Rite I (8AM) + Rite II (10AM) Order from the Book of Common Prayer. It is a very intimate service for prayer and worship.

Starting March 14th, services will return to limited in-person worship with sign ups to reserve your seat. The services will continue to be live-streamed for those worshiping from home!

Easter Sunday

We have three services on Easter Sunday!

John 12:20-33

Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor.

“Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say—‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd standing there heard it and said that it was thunder. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die.

Lent Four

John 3:19-21

[Jesus said,] "And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God."

Lent Three

John 2:18-22

The Jews then said to [Jesus], “What sign can you show us for doing this?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews then said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?” But he was speaking of the temple of his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

Lent Two

Mark 8:33

But turning and looking at his disciples, [Jesus] rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.”

Lent One

How to use the Holy Water in your “Lent in a Box”

Mark 1:9-11

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
