Priest-in-Charge Search

Updates

August 6, 2023

THE VESTRY OF the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer joyfully announces that the Rev. Dr. Mollie M. Roberts has accepted the call to become our Priest-in-Charge. Her first Sunday at Redeemer will be October 1.

Mollie will join us from the Diocese of East Carolina where she has served as the Canon for Diocesan Life and Leadership for the last three+ years. Before that she was rector of St. Simon Peter in Pell City, Alabama. Mollie’s early career was focused on business: She was an accountant, a business owner, and a teacher of management at the Savannah State University for ten years. She thinks of Savannah as “home.” She is a 2013 Masters of Divinity graduate of the University of the South at Sewanee and also completed her Doctorate of Ministry there in 2020. Mollie has three grown children and five grandchildren. She has been living in Kinston, NC, but her house is already on the market in preparation for a move to Midlothian. Her rescue dog, Pippi, comes to work with her most days, although who rescued whom is up for debate.

The vestry is deeply grateful to the Vestry Discernment Team of Lou Markwith, Margaret Ryan, Jared Taylor, Mark Baker, and Sarah Saunders for their thoughtful and faithful work with the Diocese of Southern Virginia, who actively collaborated with them throughout the discernment process.

Dear Church of the Redeemer and REDS Family,

I am at once thrilled, excited and content to be joining you as your new Priest-in-Charge. I won't repeat my bio here, but suffice to say, I bring a life full of experience and adventure with me.

Just like many of you, in life I have been fortunate enough to know great joy, but I have also known loss, great loss. Jesus did not promise us easy, but he did promise to walk with us through it all. And it gives me comfort and confidence to know that you and I will be together to celebrate and commiserate as we worship our Lord. You are in my prayers, and I look forward to meeting everyone soon!

In His peace,

Mollie+
