Food Pantry at St. Matthias’ Church

In response to Christ’s desire that the hungry be fed, Redeemer has joined with St. Matthias and other neighboring congregations at the St. Matthias Food Pantry.  Food is collected and distributed each week to needy families referred by local elementary schools, Chesterfield-Colonial Heights CCHASM, and the Central Virginia Food Bank.

Redeemer parishioners donate non-perishable food at the church.  These food contributions are delivered to the St. Matthias Food Pantry where they are sorted, packed, and distributed to the families that are registered with their organization.

Want to help? There are many ways that volunteers can assist.  Volunteers help on Fridays at St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church, 11300 West Huguenot Rd., Midlothian.  Jobs include stocking shelves, packing groceries, picking up donations from Chick-fil-A, delivering food from the pantry to the cars of referred families, and receiving donations from the cars of partner organizations.  The only requirement for participation is that masks and disposable gloves be worn by all volunteers.

Lenten Food Drive – Feb. 17 – Mar. 29, 2021

During Lent, Redeemer typically conducts a food drive by collecting nonperishable items that are donated to the food pantry at St. Matthias’ Church. Requested items are advertised in the weekly church newsletters. Wynne Sbertoli is the contact for this ministry.
