Habitat for Humanity

The Redeemer Build Team is a mixed team of women and men who help renovate existing homes and build new homes in the Powhatan area.  The team works with other area religious organizations under the auspices of Habitat for Humanity.

The build team dedicates one eight-hour day each month by providing “sweat equity” that assists a potential owner to qualify for a new home. Habitat provides all of the materials, tools, and supervision necessary to accomplish the tasks on site.

The contribution of time and labor creates a new living environment for a family that cannot afford a new permanent home.  Working together is a wonderful opportunity for sharing and fellowship as everyone learns how to build or repair a structure that will become a home for a family.

The work day is normally set for a six-month period and is agreed upon by the build team. The work schedule is usually from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break. A willingness to work and learn building skills is all that is needed  The location of the work varies according to Habitat’s schedule.
